Carpet Boarding

One of the biggest barriers for folks starting out skateboarding is the fear and reality of injury. There is no sugar coating - skateboarding is dangerous. We have most likely seen the footage to back this up, if not here are some good ones.
However, I have heard too many times people feeling like it is not for them because they are worried about seriously injuring themselves. While this is a possibility, there are lots of things that one can do to learn to minimize injury.

One of the things I introduce to future skaters when they are starting out, especially the younger ones, are small cheats or hacks to get comfortable. I will attempt to outline a few ways to in these posts!

Carpet Boarding

carpet boarding is when you take the trucks off of your skateboard to crate a stable environment to feel how the board reacts to your feet. It is usually done on carpet or grass as to not scratch your floor, board, and provide a comfortable environment to practice falling. Its also great for when the weather sucks!

Practice maneuvering the board under your feet by stepping on different parts, and you even try learning tricks to gain some confidence. If you are in a climate with snow, you can always try snowskating too!

  • make sure you have space to maneuver and FALL without running into anything

  • check to make sure you aren’t bothering your parents or downstairs neighbors.

  • consider wearing the shoes you would be skating in later
