I was always the one playing around in my desk at school. I have vivid memories of teachers trying to find ways to get me to stop playing and learn. One of the items that made its way into the classroom, despite being confiscated over and over again, were my fingerboards.

I would practice and at home, modifying my $3 tech decks by bending and gluing, and then come to school with a new bag of tricks to share with my friends. I would make custom boards for classmates, with made up brand names and logos, and eventually even sold them around school.

Eventually I would go on to make fingerboards for a skateshop in high school, and bring them into my adult life where I felt it was my duty to share the joy and passion fingerboarding brought me. While they weren’t allowed in my classrooms most the time, I believe time has come for that to change!

there is a lot a little skateboard can teach.
